Achilles Tendon Physical Therapy
One-On-One, Hands-On Treatments. Long-term, Effective Achilles Pain Relief

Casey is essential to my health and doing the things I love, like running! He is attentive to detail, prevention and healing. Many, many thanks for getting me through injuries and ready to race.

The team at Therapydia is exceptional. They really understand the body, treatments and desired outcomes of clients. While I’m using them due to a surgery I had, I plan on using their services for more preventative work to improve my overall strength and alignment with running and skiing.

Casey was very thorough and great at explaining what was going on with my body to me. I found him to be extremely professional and warm and approachable at the same time. I have and will continue to recommend people to see Casey he is great at his a great PT.

Achilles Tendon Pain Relief

The Achilles tendon is the band of tissue that connects your calf muscle to your heel bone. Achilles tendinitis occurs due to overuse and is common within in people who run or play sports and is a very common achilles tendon injury. The achilles tendon weakens with age and it can be exacerbated with increased activity levels that places stress on the achilles leading to inflammation or small tears.

Although most cases of achilles tendinitis can be treated with just physical therapy, more serious cases of achilles tendinitis can lead to tendon tears/ruptures and surgery may be needed. If you have a grade 3 injury or a complete rupture, surgery may be necessary because you will have lost your ability to bear weight.

Signs & Symptoms

To determine your diagnosis, your physical therapist may perform a movement assessment to watch your walk, squat and balance to access the strength of your leg. Achilles tendinitis may result from ankle stiffness, calf weakness, improper footwear or a change in exercise routine.

    • Point tenderness along the achilles
    • Pain and stiffness during activities that increase the demand on the achilles tendon
    • Pain after being stationary for a longer period of time or in the morning as you take your first few steps
    • Swelling in the back of the ankle

Why PT?

Your PT program will be specific to where you are in the recovery process and the extent of the injury. Progression of movement is quality based. As you demonstrate the ability to do movements pain-free, they will be progressively more challenging. The goal of physical therapy is to get you back to doing your favorite activities, pain-free.

    • Hands-on, manual therapy techniques to mobilize your achilles tendon and joints
    • Therapeutic modalities such as ultrasounds and cold/hot therapy to decrease pain
    • Custom strengthening exercise program for your achilles tendon and calf to decrease achilles load and tears
    • Patient education to discuss external factors causing pain such as footwear, running posture or faulty movement
